Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

1. Is a foreign language course a compulsory subject?

YES

2. Can I change my group?

Changing the group is only possible by consent from both the original and target group’s language teacher (if the student has their own proposal; if not, the group will be specified by the Team Manager). Consent statements should be e-mailed to cjo@ug.edu.pl and for the attention of the relevant Team Manager. Changing the group is possible during the first two weeks of the language course at full-time studies and before the second meeting at part-time studies.

3. I haven’t enrolled on a language course.

  • Click https://zapisy.euczelnia.ug.edu.pl/

  • Log in by following the instructions.

  • Define and submit your preferences (by clicking “Send”) for the language or CEFR level (from B1 to C1). For enrolling on a second foreign language course (as well as on language courses in foreign philology programmes), you can choose a level starting from A1.

  • You need to specify your entry level of language proficiency on your own. For reference, you can use any online placement test available or take the CJO placement test in English: https://forms.office.com/e/eHwxCeg1nr and in German: https://forms.office.com/e/YaT8fhbGu0

4. I am beginning my studies after the additional enrolment procedure; I have not been allocated to any language group.

Please report that issue to the CJO office immediately for allocation to a group.

5. Can I transfer the grade from a language course I completed in another field of study or at another university?

Based on § 33 of the UG Study Regulations: At the request of a student, submitted by 15 November (in the winter semester) or by 15 March (in the summer semester) ‒ in the case of full-time studies, and within one month from the commencement of classes in a given semester ‒ in the case of part-time studies, the Deputy Dean may recognise the classes for which credit has been obtained as well as the achieved and documented learning outcomes and ECTS points in particular in the case of:

1. the repetition of a course;

2. the resumption of studies;

3. participation in a student exchange programme;

4. credit for the course having been obtained in a different field of study or at another university, including a university abroad, or through completion of the internships referred to § 16 section 6, or through validation of achievements in accordance with the decision of the Verification Committee, referred to in the resolution of the Senate regarding the organisation of the verification of the learning outcomes.

Based on § 33 of the UG Study Regulations “When recognising courses as completed, the Deputy Dean shall consider similarities in learning outcomes, including in particular the number of ECTS points assigned to courses, lack of curricular differences, the form of study and class hours and the form in which credit is obtained. In the case of a student of second-cycle studies, courses completed previously in the first cycle shall not be taken into account”.

Requests for the transfer of achievements (grade transfer) should only be submitted through the eUczelnia platform.

NOTE! Only a positive decision regarding the case exempts you from the language course. Submitting a request for the transfer of achievements alone does not exempt you from the language course.

The transfer of achievements is possible in the following situations:

1. The transfer of achievements in a foreign language from another field of study (within or outside the UG) is possible when the learning outcomes are in alignment with each other i.e. all of the following requirements are complied with at the same time:

  • A documented required level of foreign language proficiency (at least B2 for the first-cycle studies and at least B2+ for the second cycle studies);

  • the number of hours completed in the field of study from which the grade is being transferred must not be smaller than required;

  • the number of ECTS credits earned for the language course in the field of study from which the grade is being transferred must not be smaller than required;

Credit/exam grades can be transferred provided that they are at least “good” (4.0) for the first-cycle studies and “good plus” (4.5) for the second-cycle studies.

A partial transfer of achievements is possible, for example, from 1 or 2 semesters, with the requirement to attend the remaining part of the course and take the final exam if the conditions are not fully met (e.g. too few hours completed).

If a decision is made to transfer achievements partially and it is necessary for you to attend the remaining semesters of the language course, you must report to the CJO Office at the beginning of the semester to be enrolled in a group. If you must take the final exam only, you should report to the CJO Office towards the end of the semester.

2. Graduates of philology studies in the language of the mandatory language course for their field of study may be exempt from attending the language course based on their diploma. In that case, the grade from the practical language course is transferred. If the diploma is older than 5 years,  it is possible to transfer achievements from the course credit, but you will have to take the final exam (or undergo the final assessment if no exam is held).

NOTE! In all cases, the documented achievements that are the basis for the course completion must not be older than 5 years.
